I am a student at Lakehead University and am writing to express my opinion on how to make our community a safer and welcoming place. Although there are some people who champion the idea of installing new CCTV cameras with night vision added, I will argue that fingerprint locks are preferable, the reasons for this are twofold.

To begin with, it is unnecessary and even offensive to put everyone under camera without their consensus, our privacy should be well respected. However, cameras with night vision will infringe personal privacy and can be used for committing criminals, hence it should be ruled out from our consideration.

On the other hand, having fingerprint locks set up will allow people to protect their home in a better way while not jeopardizing others’ daily life. For it does not need to record all people in the video and can still safeguard your home. Moreover, not only the cost for purchasing fingerprint locks is much cheaper than that of HD cameras, namely only one fifth of the latter.? which means all new equipment can be installed quickly.

In conclusion, I believe that fingerprint locks are a better choice compared to high resolution cameras, as they are efficient and effective in terms of time and cost considerations.

To whom it may concern,

As a student at XXX University, I would like to suggest a practical way to make our community?safer and more welcoming. While some residents support installing?night-vision CCTV cameras, I believe?fingerprint locks?are the better choice for two key reasons.

First, constant video surveillance is unnecessary—and arguably intrusive. Night-vision cameras record every passer-by, invading?personal privacy?and creating a risk of footage being misused for criminal activity.

Second, fingerprint locks secure homes?without disrupting anyone else’s daily life. Residents’ prints can be stored to control and log entry, so strangers are never captured on video. Fingerprint systems are also?cheaper and quicker to install?than a full network of high-resolution cameras.

In short, fingerprint locks provide an efficient, cost-effective solution that protects both?security?and?privacy. I therefore urge the community to adopt fingerprint locks instead of additional CCTV cameras.

To whom it may concern,

As a resident of xxx University’s community, I believe we can enhance safety?without sacrificing privacy?by installing?fingerprint locks instead of night-vision CCTV cameras. My recommendation rests on two considerations.

First, fingerprint locks respect personal privacy.?Night-vision cameras film every passer-by around the clock, creating footage that can be leaked or even hacked for criminal purposes. By contrast, biometric locks record?only authorized fingerprints, so neighbors and strangers are never captured on video.

Second, they are more cost-effective and easier to deploy?A reliable fingerprint lock costs roughly?one-fifth?the price of a single HD camera—and requires no wiring or data-storage infrastructure. Most doors can be upgraded in under an hour, whereas a camera network could take days and ongoing maintenance fees.

In sum,?fingerprint locks offer the rare combination of?greater security, lower cost, and zero intrusion on privacy. For those reasons, I strongly urge the committee to adopt biometric locks and set aside the camera proposal.
