Plants make their own food but aniamls do not. Instead, animals eat other living things.

Food chains show how animals get the nutrients they need.(食物鏈顯示動物如何獲取他們所需要的營

Most food chains start with green plants,such as clover.Green plants are producers(制造者). Producer: A living thing that makes its own food(制造者是指可以自己制造食物的生物).Plants are producers.(植物是生產(chǎn)者).

clover→snail→hedgehog→bager

The arrows mean 'is eaten by'.(箭頭→是指‘被吃掉').In this food chain(在這個食物鏈) the clover(三葉草)is eaten by the snail(被蝸牛吃掉),the snail is eaten by the hedgehog(刺猬)and the hedgehog is eaten by the badger(刺猬被獾吃掉).

Animals that eat other animals are predators(捕食者). Hedgehogs and badgers are predators(刺猬和獾是捕食者).

The hedgehog is also a prey animal(刺猬也是被獵食的動物).It is eaten by other animals(它會被其他動物吃掉), for example the badger(比如獾).The food chain shows that snails are the prey of hedgehogs.(這個食物鏈顯示蝸牛是刺猬的獵物)

Changes to one plant or animals in a food chain affact other parts of the chain(一種植物或食物的變化會影響到食物鏈上的其他部分).For example ,if badgers are killed the number of hedgehogs might increase(例如，如果獾被殺死，刺猬的數(shù)量就有可能增加).
