Words and Expressions

1. testimony

Consider what President Nixon's aide John Dean accomplished in just one day of testimony on television during the Watergate hearings（水門事件聽證會）.

【義】1. a formal statement saying that something is true, especially one a witness makes in a court of law? （法庭上的）證詞

2. 證據(jù)；證明

2. blunt

By using a more pompous phrase in his professional role he not only sounds more important; he blunts the painful edge of truth.

【試譯】用上一個更加浮夸的措辭 ，擺出他的專業(yè)身份，不僅會使他聽起來更有地位，還可以把真相最傷人的那一面模糊掉。

感悟 - Thoughts || 簡樸，后求個性。

作者數(shù)次重復 “Simplify”，而且更用第二章第三章兩章的篇幅去講這一件事。

第三篇 主要是分析了各種Clutter，并提出要不斷地斟酌紙上的每一條句子，不斷地問自己：是否還有一些詞可以刪去？

- 不得不說，這一點，并不易辦到。我一直對虛構文學寫作非常感興趣，但因受影響，曾試圖模仿過別人那些天花亂墜的文筆。然而現(xiàn)在想來，我就連“結構緊湊”，“言之有物”都做不到。何談文筆。

- 此時應先做減法。Be grateful for everything you can throw away.對任何你能丟掉的東西心存感激（這一點在生活上亦有用。）。每一個字都要用得精當，而能表現(xiàn)出作者的用意。
