Automobiles have become increasingly popularover the past decades, with one family owning at least one private car. In myopinion, whilst automobiles have empowered us and give us considerable convenienceand freedom, their negative impact upon the environment is far more significant.
Admittedly, cars have made our lifemuch easier and faster. This is because they enable people to move from oneplace to another with ease. They also help us transport cargoes. Without them,we would have otherwise carried by ourselves from one location to another. Carsare especially important and useful to business people because they save them alot on time and provide great opportunities for their owners. It is clear thatwith the advent of automobiles, people are able to lead a comfortable and efficient life.
Despite their benefits, motor vehicles areconsidered a major culprit of air pollution. Private cars are notorious for releasing plenty of harmful gas emissions such as carbon oxide and sulfurdioxide. These toxic chemical substances will lead to foggy weather and greenhouse effect. Besides,Some air pollutants and particulate matter from cars can be deposited on soil and surface waters where they enter the food chain; these substances can affect the reproductive, respiratory, immune and neurological systems of animals. Nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides are major contributors to acid rain, which changes the pH of waterways and soils and can harm the organisms that rely on these resources. Therefore, the increasing number of private cars puts a strain on the environment.
To sum up, the detrimental effects of privatecars on the environment are more significant than the comfort and efficiency theyhave brought.
