The autumn leaves drift by the window

The autumn leaves of red and gold

I see your lips, the summer kisses

The sunburned hands I used to hold

drift verb

MOVE SLOWLY

1 [I] (+ adv./ prep.) to move along smoothly and slowly in water or air

Clouds drifted across the sky.

The empty boat drifted out to sea.

A cool breeze drifted through the open window.

Smoke drifted across the room.

He/She is a hand-holder.

He/She held my hand, whispering to my ear.

Since you went away the days grow long

And soon I'll hear old winter's song

But I miss you most of all, my darling

When autumn leaves start to fall

e.g.

I’ve never seen him again since he left for Paris.

Days have grown shorter and nights have grown longer since autumn began.

miss, v. 想念

I missed you.

There is so much words can tell, but I’ll leave the rest to ‘redundancies’, especially tenses.

The unresolved feelings you might have for someone who has drifted out of your life, the untouchable memory that drags you deep into sorrow every time you feel tempted to touch it, and the simple beauty of the season, painted in red and gold, all make autumn the perfect time to get sentimental.

It might sound cheesy and corny to be romantically sentimental when everything in your life indicates the death of romance. So be it, cheesy and corny.

Autumn is the season when Demeter missed her daughter, who was forced to marry Haides, so much that she forgot to do her job, leaving everything in the world withered, expecting winter.

It is only human to mourn our loss in the past, whoever or whatever may it be, when gods and goddesses were doing the same.

So, in autumn, we get sentimental.

Maybe we owe someone a proper goodbye.

Maybe we gain a few pounds thanks to the food we have to keep warm.

Maybe I’ll see you when I see you, and we’ll see how our story unfolds.

Stop by at the trees whose leaves are almost all gone, will you?

Take a moment and indulge ourselves in the world of red and gold, and I know that you know, it is a perfect time to be sentimental.
