Sometimes I Return Home This Way
by Shuang Yi
That thick book
I opened it twenty years ago with care.
Those crowded square characters
were like security guards on high alert.
People with prideful faces like mine
were all banned from entering the gate.
Till twenty years later in a different State,
when I often lower my eyes,
and my hair has picked up some gray,
each page of that old book has become
a soft warm and wet towel,
into which I bury my dirty face,
like running back home so long apart.
