There was a joke about how fast China had developed in some areas in the country. It goes like this:
An American went to Shanghai and stayed in the tallest hotel building in Pudong district. His Chinese hosts introduced the hotel and the newly developed vicinity area near the hotel. He was so impressed with the new city, the skyscrapers that were newer and taller than those in Manhattan, all the fancy stores and entertainment amenities, and the parking that were more expensive than in Manhattan. And then he asked, “So, these are nice. But, where can I find a Chinese restaurant?”
Well, that was that. I am sitting in a Chinese restaurant right now. While waiting for my food to arrive, I am updating my daily article with my cell phone.
This restaurant is near our office just a few city blocks down the street. I came here once in a while. Since they are not so busy, I became a relatively frequent customer.
The owner was always glad to see me there for lunch. Sometimes I brought my coworkers there with me. And I often ordered something not included in their menu to impress my friends from the office. They were fascinated to hear that I could communicate with the waitresses in fluent Chinese.
Since I have been working in the same company for so long and came here for lunch many times, I have even seen the restaurant ownership changed two times. Except, their menu was never changed.
Their service was always fast. Now I only have time to write down part of this article before my food was served.
