What is New Year's Day？
新年是什么？
New Year's Day is the first day of the year on the calendar.
新年是日歷上標(biāo)示的一年的第一天。
It is also called Yuan Dan in Chinese.
在中文里，我們也稱這一天為元旦。
Yuan means beginning, and Dan means day.
元是開始的意思，旦是天的意思。
So we can also tell it from its Chinese name that this day is the first day of a year.
因此從中文的名稱里我們也能知道，這指的是一年的第一天。
Now you know that New Year's Day represents a fresh start of a year.

本周，小鹿為大家推薦的繪本是Natasha Wing的The Night Before New Year's。這個(gè)系列的繪本也以押韻見長，語句讀起來朗朗上口，家長們在講完故事后不妨帶寶寶們大聲讀出來哦。
在這本書里，作者講述了一對小兄弟和爸爸媽媽一起裝飾屋子，熬夜跨年，慶祝新年的故事。繪本較長，幾乎囊括了小鹿在上文提到的所有新年慶祝儀式，比如說購買新年裝飾品:
