Total Number of Parameters

parameter NF store the total filed (parameters)

cat file | awk '{for(i=0;i<=NF;++i){print $i}}'

will print a line and print each parameters one by one.

Some Experience

the following thing is my experience, need u recheck.

if the para is define in awk and is number u dont need add $ before 
it, when u want get its value.
if define string in awk u need use " ", rather than ' ', and i check 
that use string value is also dont need add $ before the parameters.
NOTE : all the upon is in awk, not talk about bash.

so if u use following command

cat file|awk '{for(i=0;i<NF;++i){print i}}'

the result will be

0
1
2
.
.
.
NF-1
