(1)蘇東坡與權(quán)利。
“I feel like a tired hose who balks at climbing up a hill.”
蘇東坡參加考試初入仕途時(shí)的雄心壯志,到如今,他把自己比喻成疲憊的馬,體現(xiàn)對(duì)官場(chǎng)的乏力。
(2)本章主旨。
If Su Tungpo's fate?/ in the next twenty years /?is indicative of / an official's lack of freedom?/ of personal movement,// it should be a powerful argument / against any scholar's joining politics?/ who can make a living otherwise.
開頭的第一句話就點(diǎn)名了本章的主旨:人在官場(chǎng),身不由己,蘇東坡何去何從全由皇帝決定。這個(gè)句子的結(jié)構(gòu)也值得學(xué)習(xí)。
(3)蘇東坡的善良。
If that was a beautiful thing to do, it was a beautiful thing to do —— that was all.
對(duì)于蘇東坡的善良,本章中用買房子的事情再一次予以佐證?!俺扇粯睹朗?,全因其美,無它?!绷终Z堂用這句話寫出了蘇東坡秉性純良,不用金錢來衡量事情值不值得做。

2 - Words and Expressions
(1)break in on(或upon)
原文:This news broke in on him at the beginning of ?March in 1084.(P524)
①突然擾亂…而使中斷,打擾,突然打斷(談話等):
【例句】Children shouldn"t?break in on?adults" conversation。打斷他人的談話是不禮貌的。
②突然襲擊;闖入:
【例句】The police broke in upon the robbers. /警察突然襲擊了那伙強(qiáng)盜。
(2)toss off
原文:... of which he tossed off a great many.
①輕而易舉地完成某件事:
【例句】She tossed off a letter during the 10-minute break.?
在10分鐘休息時(shí),她很快地寫了一封信。
②to perform, write, consume, etc, quickly and easily 迅速而輕松地表演、寫作、消耗等,文中就是這個(gè)意思。
③將某物一飲而盡。
(3)entrust:表示“委托,交付”,可同義替換成leave,pass,hand等。
原文:... in order to entrust this old preist to one of his friends at Shingkuo.
(4)at a stroke:一下子,一舉。
原文:At a stroke,the rewards of his years of labor were wiped out...
