Singapore has been able to respond strongly and effectively to Covid19 because there's strong trust between the people and the government and the sense that we are all in this together.
The government can make decisions quickly and carry them? on the most effectively 'cause? Singaporeans have confidence that those responsible know what they're doing, care about their health and safety and share their worries and concerns. We do not hide bad news. We do not flinch from doing the right thing.We 'll go the extra mile to help everyone of us come through this together.
That is why people comply with stringent quarantine orders，people accept reassurances about masks, people feel? safe and carry on with their lives. The fundamental basis for this is trust and solidarity between the government and the people.
The political leadership will do our parts to show solidarity with all fellow Singaporeans. All political office holders will take a one month cut in your salary. All members of parliament will also take a one month cut in their allowance. The President has informed me that she will join in to take a similar one month pay cut. Some senior public officers will take a half month， senior public service officers will take a half month pay cut.
In the weeks and months to come we'll need to draw deeply on? Singapore's reserves? of resilience, trust and solidarity. This unity of purpose across our whole society is helpful to see us through this challenging times.
