Do justice 是什么意思

英語中，有些常用詞，簡單詞的組合，往往產(chǎn)生新的含義，語言也顯得生動活潑，簡單易懂。在英語學(xué)習(xí)，我們不得不注意到英語的這一特點。

德魯克先生在他《21世紀(jì)的管理挑戰(zhàn)（management challenges for the 21 century)》一書中，有一句話是這樣的" I cannot even begin to do justice to what I owe the editors of these magazines--for their questions,their guidance, their cutting, rephrasing,repositioning".

那么這里的do justice 是什么意思呢？

Cobuild英漢雙解字典是這樣解釋的：

3.1 you describe or reproduce them in a way that shows fairly how good or valuable they are,公平地描述；公平地評判。
　　舉例：the radio can't do justice to the full quality of her voice--you have to hear her live to appreciate it.
　　收音機無法把她的音色充分地展現(xiàn)出來--你必須聽她現(xiàn)場演出才能欣賞它。

3.2 you deal with them properly and completely ,充分恰當(dāng)?shù)靥幚?；盡情享用；充分看到...的優(yōu)點。
　　舉例：they did justice to the huge plates of food that they'd been served....
　　他們津津有味地吃下端上來的大盤大盤的菜肴...
　　I am the only man in Europe capable of doing it justice, of making a perfect job of it.
　　我是歐洲唯一能恰當(dāng)處理而且盡善盡美地完成這項工作的人。

4 if you do yourself justice,you do something as well as you are capable of doing it,充分發(fā)揮自己的能力；盡自己最大的努力。
　　舉例：she didn't do justice to herself in the exam.
　　她考試未考出水準(zhǔn)。

　　這樣看來，我們就大致了解了德魯克先生這句話的含義，其大意是這樣的：這些雜志的編輯在審校，指導(dǎo)，剪輯，修改措辭和調(diào)換段落位置的過程中做出了無法估量的貢獻。

從以上看來，在外語學(xué)習(xí)中，不管你學(xué)了多久，水平多高，總會有不明不解之處，也總會有忽略之處。所以，我們對待外語學(xué)習(xí)，即要高屋建瓴，大而化之，又要處處留心，見微知著，總之，一句話，外語的學(xué)習(xí)和運用是一生的，不能急，也不能停。

人の一生は、重き荷を負って遠き道を行くが如し。急ぐべからず。（人生如負重致遠，不可急躁）。
