美麗的公主將要嫁給傲慢的王子，大火龍突然出現(xiàn)，捉走了王子，燒毀了城堡里的一切，只剩下赤裸的公主和一個(gè)紙袋，勇敢的公主智取火龍，救出了王子，卻遭到王子的奚落。那么，美麗、聰明、勇敢的公主到底該如何選擇呢？

依莉莎白是一位美麗的公主。
她住在一座城堡里，穿的都是昂貴的公主禮服。
她就要和阿諾王子結(jié)婚了。
Elizabeth was a beautiful priness.
She lived in a castle and had expensive
princess clothes.
She was going to marry a prince named Ronald.
不幸的是，一條火龍摧毀了她的城堡，噴火龍燒毀了她所有的衣服，還抓走了阿諾王子。
Unfortunately, a dragon smashed her castle,
burned all her clothes with his fiely breth,
and carried off Prince Ronald.
依莉莎白決定去追火龍，把阿諾給救回來(lái)。
她四處找能穿的東西，
卻只找到一個(gè)沒(méi)燒掉的紙袋，
她就穿上紙袋去追火龍了，
火龍很容易跟蹤，
因?yàn)樗粝乱粭l燒焦的森林小路和吃剩的馬骨頭。
Elizabeth decided to chase the dragon and
get Ronald back.
She looked everywhere for something to wear,
but the only thing she could find that
was not burnt was a paper bag.
So she put on the paper bag and followed the
dragon.
He was easy to follow because he left a trail of
burn forests and horses'bones.
終于，依莉莎白來(lái)到一個(gè)洞穴前，
洞穴大門上有一個(gè)巨型扣環(huán)。
她握住扣環(huán)，重重地敲門。
火龍把它的鼻子伸出大門，
說(shuō)道：“哎呀！是一個(gè)公主！我最愛(ài)吃公主了，
可是我今天已經(jīng)吃了一整座城堡。
我很忙，你明天再來(lái)吧?！?/p>
說(shuō)完，它“砰”一聲飛快地關(guān)上了門，
差點(diǎn)兒撞到伊莉莎白的鼻子。
Finally, Elizabeth came to a cave with a large
door that had a huge knocker on it.
She took hold of the knocker and banged on the door.
The dragon stuck his nose out of the door and
said, "Well, a princess! I love to eat princesses,
but I have already eaten a whole castle today.
I am a very busy dragon. Come back tomorrow."
He slammed the door so fast that Elizabeth
almost got her nose caught
依莉莎白抓住扣環(huán)，再次重重的敲門。
火龍把它的鼻子伸出大門，說(shuō)道：“走開(kāi)，我是愛(ài)吃公主，
但我今天已經(jīng)吃過(guò)一整座城堡了。
我很忙，你明天再來(lái)吧?！?/p>
“等一等”伊莉莎大喊，
“聽(tīng)說(shuō)你是全世界最聰明，最強(qiáng)悍的火龍，是真的嗎?”
“是的”火龍回答。
Elizabeth grabbed the knocker and banged on
the door again.
The dragon stuck his nose out of the door and
said, "Go away. I love to eat princesses,
but I have already eaten a whole castle today.
I am a very busy dragon. Come back tomorrow."
“Wait,”shouted Elizabeth.
"Is it ture that you are the smartest and fiercest
dragon in the whole world?"
"Yes,"said the dragon.
“你一噴火就能燒掉十座森林，”
依莉莎說(shuō)，“這是真的嗎？”
“哦，當(dāng)然?！被瘕堈f(shuō)完，深深的吸了一大口氣，
然后噴出好多火焰，一下子燒光了五十座森林。
"Is it ture,"said Elizabeth, "that you can burn up
ten forests with your fiery breath?"
"Oh, yes," said the dragon, and he took a huge,
deep breath and breathed out so much fire that
he burnt up fifty forests.
“太棒了！”伊麗莎白說(shuō)。
于是火龍又深深地吸了一大口氣，再噴出好多火，這一回?zé)饬艘话僮帧?/p>
“好厲害呀！”伊麗莎白喊著。
于是火龍又大大地吸了一口氣，但這次什么也沒(méi)有吐出來(lái)。
火龍剩下的火連烤個(gè)肉丸都不夠了。
"Fantastic," said Elizabeth,
and the dragon took another huge breath
and breathed out so muchfire that
he burnt up one hundred forests.
"Magnificent," said Elizabeth,
and the dragon took another huge breath,
but this time noting came out.
The dragon didn't even have enough fire
left to cook a meatball.
伊麗莎白說(shuō)：“火龍，你只用十秒就能繞地球飛一圈，是真的嗎？”
“嗯，對(duì)呀，”火龍說(shuō)著跳起來(lái)，只用十秒就繞著地球飛了一圈。
它回來(lái)時(shí)可真是累壞了，但伊麗莎白又叫著：“太精彩了，再來(lái)一次！”
Elizabeth said ,"Dragon,
is it ture that you can fly around the world in just ten second?"
"Why, yes," said the dragon, and jumped up
and flew all the way around the world in just ten seconds.
He was very tried when he got back,
but Elizabeth shouted, "Fantastic, do it again!"
于是，火龍又跳起來(lái)繞著地球飛了一圈。
這次用了二十秒。
他回來(lái)時(shí)，累得說(shuō)不出話，
躺在地上就睡著了。
So the dragon jumped up and flew around
the whole world in just twenty seconds.
When he go back he was too tried to talk,
and he lay down and went straigth to sleep.
依莉莎白輕聲地說(shuō)：”嘿，火龍?！?/p>
火龍一動(dòng)也不動(dòng)。
她提起火龍的耳朵，把自己的頭都放進(jìn)去了，
盡可能大聲地喊：“喂！火—龍！”
火龍真的累得完全無(wú)法動(dòng)彈了。
Elizabeth whispered, very softly, "Hey, dragon."
The dragon didn't move at all.
She lifted up the dragon's ear and put her head right inside.
She shouted as loud as she could, "Hey, dragon!"
The dragon was so tried he didn't even move.
依莉莎白走過(guò)火龍，
打開(kāi)門進(jìn)入洞穴。
阿諾王子就在那兒。
他上上下下打量著她說(shuō)：
”依莉莎白，你真是一團(tuán)糟！
你全身都是煙灰味，頭發(fā)亂七八糟，還穿著一個(gè)又臟又破的紙袋！
等你穿得像個(gè)公主再來(lái)找我吧?！?/p>
Elizabeth walked right over the dragon and opened the door to the cave.
There was Prince Ronald.
He looked at her and said,
"Elizabeth, you are a mess!
You smell like ashes,
your hair is all tangled
and you are weating a dirty old paper bag.
Come back when you are dressed like a real princess."
“阿諾，依莉莎白說(shuō)，
“你的衣服是很漂亮，你的頭發(fā)非常整潔。，
你看起來(lái)真像個(gè)王子，
但你卻是個(gè)沒(méi)用的家伙！”
最后，他們當(dāng)然沒(méi)有結(jié)婚啰。
"Ronald," said Elizabeth,
"your clothes are really pretty and your hair is very neat.
You look like a real prince,
but you are a bum"
They didn't get married after all.
這個(gè)故事顛覆了以往童話故事中的王子和公主形象。首先，公主表現(xiàn)得更加有智慧和力量，傳統(tǒng)童話中都是公主等著王子的拯救，而這個(gè)童話卻把兩個(gè)角色徹底做了調(diào)換。其次，公主表現(xiàn)得更有主見(jiàn)，當(dāng)王子責(zé)怪公主時(shí)，公主馬上還以顏色，毫不猶豫地棄他而去。
