MOMA 2 Hours Tour

The Museum of Modern Art, we called MOMA, one of the largest and the most influential museum of modern art in the world. You can find so many great art pieces hanging on the wall, including “The Persistence of Memory” by Salvador Dali, “The Starry Night” by Van Gogh, “Christina’s World” by Andrew Wyeth, “One: Number 31 1950” by Pollock all the famous paintings and the list goes on and on.

Atrium

Before going to explore the Museum, I did little research about what exactly the Modern Art entail. The period of modern art is roughly from the 1860s to 1970s. Before, artists often created artwork by the commission of wealthy or church. The Modern artists broke tradition to create new, artwork became more toward experimental, they were making art about people, places, and ideas that interested to them. MOMA has large collections of art includes paintings, electronic media, prints, film, sculpture, photograph and design objects.

ONE: NUMBER 31 1950

MOMA has 6 floors, one tip recommend is exploring the museum from the top to the bottom, a lot of famous paintings are in floor 5, when you finish the tour, you will end up with watching the movie on the bottom floor. Also,I recommend to download the MOMA app on the phone, listen to the audio of each artwork. Some of the audios have kids version, I think it sounds a lot more fun than the adult version.

At the 5th floor, when I stood in front of the Starry Night, I felt the painting hit my heart because it is so real and so close to me. When you actually see the real paint in front of you, it is very different than the ton of pictures you see on the Internet. One of my favorite painting is One: Number 31 1950, it looks like the painter threw all the paint together when he was drawing. Listen to the explanation from MOMA APP, I knew that the painter Pollock was listening to music and dancing while his drawing. Even though I still don’t understand why does this make his paint so famous, but it certainly a very interesting artwork to look at. When you stand in front of this huge paint, try to feel the painter mood at that time, image what kind of song was he listening to. It is an art that broke tradition method, people at that time made fun of his art, but decades passed, it became a great artwork. ?Also, the story behind Christina’s World inspired me. Christina is unable to walk, but she did not need anyone’s help, she still crawled into the backyard, did her own laundry.

There is still a lot of interesting things in the MOMA I did not have much time to explore, like the modern fashion at floor 6. MOMA is one of my favorite museums, I will definitely visit few more times. If you have a chance to visit NY, it is one of the top choices for you.?
