Words
1. Their father had plotted out the whole trip in the road atlas, a chain of places so steeped in Americana that it oozed out everywhere: ...
steeped: If a place or person is steeped in a quality or characteristic, they are surrounded by it or deeply influenced by it.
The family was steeped in happiness.
2. But from far away, with the heat and noise of the party cocooning him, his perspective had shifted.
3. She did not notice her father’s nostalgia, or her brother’s illuminated face.?
nostalgia: when you long for the good old days of the past.
The noun?nostalgia?was invented by a Swiss doctor in the late 1600s. He put together the Greek?nostos?"homecoming" and?algos?"pain, distress" as a literal translation of the German?Heimweh?"homesickness." Originally, it was a medical diagnosis for mercenary soldiers. Today, it describes a bittersweet longing for the past. Think of the dreamy way your grandpa tells stories of his childhood — he's got nostalgia.

1. A band of dust would border the bare shelves, clean wood at the back where the books had once stood. Every drawer, when she opened it, would be empty. Even the sheets on his bed would be gone.
a band of dust would border the bare shelves, clean wood at the back where the books had once stood空蕩蕩的書架上邊緣留下一條灰塵印跡,曾經(jīng)放書的地方則嶄新光亮。
2. Tiny green buds, fallen from the trees, crushed themselves beneath the bristles.
Go take your problems to Jack"。
At least I know who I am. What I want.
