The most powerful Atlantic storm in a decade has caused widespread destruction across the Caribbean and left at least 37 people dead there. Four storm-related deaths have also been reported in Florida.

Officials now blame at least 60 deaths on Harvey, the storm that dumped several feet of rain on southeast Texas in a matter of days. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott suggested the cost of recovery could be as much as $180 billion.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. are sending some of their empty ships to the Caribbean to help evacuate stranded tourists and bring much-needed supplies to islands severely damaged by Hurricane Irma.
“Hurricanes get their destructive energy from the warmth of the ocean, and the region’s water temperatures are super elevated,” said Anders Levermann.
