relieve, alleviate, ease, buffer,也可以用compensate for:?
V-I Something that compensates for something else balances it or reduces its effects. 抵消
Senators say it is crucial that a mechanism is found to compensate for inflation.
n. someone or something that protects one thing or person from being harmed by another 起緩沖作用的人[物]
[+ against]
Eastern Europe was important to Russia as a buffer against the West.?
vt. to reduce the bad effects of something緩沖,緩和,緩解
Consumer spending is buffering the effects of the recession.?
Cushion
v. to protect someone from an unpleasant situation or the unpleasant effects of something使免受沖擊,減輕…的影響
cushion the blow/impact (of sth)
generous leaving allowances to help cushion the blow of redundancy?
cushion sb from/against sth
Parents today often feel their children should be cushioned from the outside world.?
[usually singular,一般用單數(shù)] something, especially money, that prevents you from being immediately affected by a bad situation起緩解作用的東西;〔尤指〕防備不時之需的積蓄
[+ against]
Savings can act as a cushion against unemployment.
an action or event that causes difficulty or sadness for someone打擊
Joe resigned, which was a severe blow because we needed him desperately.
His mother’s death was a shattering blow .
The election result dealt a further blow to the party.?
The factory closures came as a blow to the local economy.?
The final blow for many firms was the government’s abolition of import duties.
soften/cushion the blow: to make something unpleasant easier for someone to accept緩和打擊
A reduction in interest rates would soften the blow of tax increases.
Industrial capacity cut may lay off 4 million workers/slash four million jobs/lead to the layoffs of nearly 4 million workers, but the robust/crying demand for labor from the service industry, from restaurants to health care, is cushioning the blow.
Four million may be laid off due to ...
Industrial capacity cut may lay off nearly four million workers, which, though, will be compensated for by the robust/crying demand for labor from the service industry...
... but the services sector, from ... to ..., with crying demand for labor, is easing the blow.
“緩解”可以名詞化,act as a buffer/cushion
Savings can act as a cushion against unemployment.
Crying demand for labor in the services sector, from... to..., is acting as a cushion against the layoffs of nearly four million workers caused by industrial capacity cut.
