What is Spring Festival?
春節(jié)是什么?
Spring Festival is a traditional Chinese festival that marks the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar.
春節(jié)是標(biāo)志著農(nóng)歷新年的中國傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日。
Just like the New Year's Day, the Spring Festival falls on the first day of traditional Chinese calendar.
就像元旦節(jié)一樣,春節(jié)在農(nóng)歷的第一天。
But it is far more important than the New Year's Day.
但它比元旦節(jié)重要多啦。
But why is the Spring Festival so important for our Chinese people?
春節(jié)對(duì)我們中國人來說為什么那么重要呢?
Because it is a time for families gathering.
因?yàn)檫@是家家戶戶團(tuán)圓的日子。
In 2019, it falls on 5 February, initiating the Year of the Pig.
2019年的春節(jié)是2月5日,從那天起就是豬年了。
What does the Year of the Pig mean?
豬年是什么意思呢?
Each Chinese New Year is named for one of 12 animal symbols from the Chinese zodiac.
每個(gè)農(nóng)歷中國年都有一個(gè)生肖。

Dragon is a legendary creature.

In stories, it is thought to be the king of the sea.

And the following twelve animals are snack, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

大掃除

You joined us and put all your toys back into the toy chest.

Cleaning our home thoroughly is a custom of the Spring Festival.
春節(jié)前大掃除是春節(jié)的習(xí)俗。
Doing this means sweeping out the bad luck and bringing in some good luck.
這么做意味著除舊迎新。
年夜飯

On New Year's Eve grangparents and cousins and aunnt and uncles come over to share our feast.
除夕夜, 爺爺奶奶、叔叔伯伯、阿姨嬸嬸、兄弟姐們都來跟我們團(tuán)聚,一起吃年飯了。
We all sit at a big round table. We have special soup, chicken, whole fish, and for dessert Eight Precious rice pudding.
Delicious!
我們圍著大圓桌吃飯,年夜飯有湯、雞肉、全魚,還有八寶飯。
嗯,真的是太美味了。
Tomorrow we will have our New Year's Eve feast.
明天我們也要吃年夜飯啦。
It is also called reunion dinner, the most important dinner for Cinese people.
年夜飯也叫團(tuán)圓飯,是中國人最重要的一頓飯。
On New Year's Eve, all the family menbers come back home to have dinner together.
在除夕夜,所有家庭成員都會(huì)歡聚一堂一起吃年夜飯。
Kids love the New Year's Eve feast because there are dozens of cuisines in the feast.
小朋友們喜歡年夜飯,因?yàn)槟暌癸埨镉泻枚嗪贸缘摹?/p>

On New Year's Day Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, and Dad give us money in little red envelopes. This will bring us more good luck.
大年初一,爺爺奶奶、爸爸媽媽會(huì)給我們壓歲錢。相信這會(huì)給我們帶來更多好運(yùn)。
The first day of a new year is usually spent visiting family menbers and friends.
每年的大年初一通常都是在走親訪友中度過。
On that day, children and young people will pay a New Year call to senior people in the family.
那天,小朋友和年輕人會(huì)向家里的長輩拜年。
And adults will give out red envelopes to children to wish them best in the new year.
大人也會(huì)給小朋友發(fā)紅包,給他們新年祝福。
You received plenty of red envelopes last year, but I don't think you can remember that.

舞龍舞獅

Here come the Lion Dancers! Look how beautiful they are.
舞獅來啦!看,他們多漂亮。
The lion's mouth is open and his ears are wiggling.
獅子的嘴大張著,耳朵也不停轉(zhuǎn)動(dòng)。
He gobbles up green lettuce and red envelopes.
他大口吞下生菜和紅包。

THE DRAGON! It is a sign of good luck, and the beginning of the spring!
舞龍也來了!龍是好運(yùn)的象征,也預(yù)示著春天即將來臨。
We hug and wish each other...

Both lion dance and dragon dance are traditional Chinese performance.
舞獅和舞龍都是中國傳統(tǒng)表演。
During the Spring Festival, lion dance and dragon dance troupes will be performed in squares and communities.
春節(jié)期間,廣場上社區(qū)里都會(huì)有舞龍舞獅表演。
It is believed that the performance can bring good luck to people.
人們認(rèn)為,舞龍舞獅可以給人帶來好運(yùn)。
And they can also bring us a more festive atmosphere.
