2. 體會這個詞 （進階篇）

我們很熟悉“translate”可以表示“翻譯”的用法，不過可能對它引申的用法比較陌生?！皌ranslate”作不及物動詞時，常和 into 搭配表示表示“導(dǎo)致...結(jié)果” “意味著”。

比如，我們想表達一個產(chǎn)品的客服做的越好，它的用戶就會越忠誠，我們就可以說：

Quality customer service translates into customer loyalty.

比如，科學(xué)家們在科研上取得成功，并不意味著他們直接會因此而衣食無憂：

Scientific success doesn't automatically translate into financial success.

這種用法在外刊中很常見，大家可能已經(jīng)注意到了它的“公式”是：A translate(s) into B。比如《經(jīng)濟學(xué)人》在語言板塊 Johnson 中討論學(xué)習(xí)外語的價值時，在標題部分就用到了 translate：

Even on conservative estimates, speaking another language translates into a big earnings boost.
