In the reading material, three ways to tackle the decline of the tree called Torreya Taxifoha are offered, and in the listening material, explanations on why none of these ways are viable are given.

The first solution is to reestablish the tree in the same location, i.e. north of Florida because the proper microclimate conditions, both wetter and cooler, are good for its growth. However, it is not feasible because the larger region does not sustain such an environment on account of the ever serious global warming which has raised the region’s temperature and drained its wetland.

The second option is to move the tree to a different location far north, where, given such a much cooler temperature, the seeds and saplings are expected to thrive better. Unfortunately, this has proven highly risky by a similar yet failed attempt where the new-comer tree that spread too fast killed other local trees and plants which already border extinction themselves.

The third solution is to preserve the trees at a research center where the species is supposed to receive dedicated and professional treatment and cultivation. But the problem is that a research center has its own limitations in that the small amount it can accommodate and thus the limited diversity is far from adequate for the tree to survive diseases let alone thrive for a long term.
