The alliance of Shias, Sunnis, Kurds have ejected IS from Raqqa, the Syrian captial. Also Mosul has been recaptured from IS. However, the reconstruction and reconciliation are woefully neglected. Mr. Abadi, the Iraq prime minister, who is from Shias, pays a lip service to the reconstruction of Mobul. He seems to show little haste in making the western part of Mobul habitable once more. Mr. abadi is raising revenue for the general election in April, and meanwhile some policians think the ruins of Mobul should stand as a reminder to Sunnis and warning to Kurds of the costs of revolt.
Mr. Abadi must find an effective way to govern the Sunnis area, e.g. providing funds and more autonomy for Sunnis to let them feel they have a stake in the country. A concerted effort to rebuld Mosul will help to bind Iraq's wounds and set an example for the peace of Syria.
