Yesterday (from posting date) I played a badminton tournament. It lasted for two days and all the players had a great time. Especially me. I won the Boy's Single and Mixed Doubles Plate and I was pretty happy about it. For me, this was the second tournament of the year. During the period of these two days, I have increased my understanding of sportsmanship deeper. I saw these great players that were much better than me, and how they got really annoyed whenever they missed a shot or made a misjudgement and some players that lost, didn't show respect at the end of the game. I suddenly realised, "Why are you doing this? You played great and it was a good game." I came home straight away and searched the definition of sportsmanship.
Sportsmanship. The Google definition of sportsmanship is 'fair and generous behaviour or treatment of others, especially in a sporting contest. "he displayed great sportsmanship in defeat"'

My definition of sportsmanship is being mindful of who we are and the people around us. To be a grateful winner and loser and not a sore loser and a bragging winner. To show respect not only off the field but during the game as well. Some may know that I play badminton. An example of showing sportsmanship is just lifting up the net so that your opponent and their coach can go under without struggling. There are countless other ways to show sportsmanship. Like if you are watching a game and one of the players is injured, you could lend them your ice pack or help them up.
Another important thing that some people don't do, is before a match say good luck or give them a high five and after a game, look at them in the eyes and give them and a good handshake.
Some people are also sore losers. This is the Wikipedia definition of a sore loser. "One who complains or blames others for their loss; one who is easily angered by losing a game or contest."
Blaming someone else for your misfortune or getting angry because you lost is not displaying sportsmanship. It just means you that need to work harder and next time beat them.
You can learn a lot from sports and at the same time have a lot of fun! Even though sometimes you may have arguments, you must remember, sport is only a game.
