1.當east（東方）、west（西方）、south（南方）、north（北方）作為名詞或形容詞，用于指定特定區(qū)域時，則其首字母應(yīng)大寫。

2.當這些單字僅僅表示一般方向或地點時，則首字母不需大寫。
Example：
Many skiers have relocated from the?northeast?to the?south.
3.當特指北方人和南方人時，請使用首字母大寫的Northerner和Southerner。
Example：
The first visit of a?Northerner?to this section is certain to be filled with novel experiences.
4.當northern（北方的）、southern（南方的）、 eastern（東方的）和western（西方的）用于指定某個區(qū)域的人民、政治、社會，或文化活動時，首字母請大寫。否則，若表述的是一般地點或區(qū)域的地理位置或氣候時，則不需首字母大寫。
Example：
Western?civilization, but westerly winds.
The drought has ended in the?northern?states.（描述氣候，首字母不需大寫）

注意：
