讀文學(xué),首先是去體會語言的美感。一種成熟的語言,它不僅能承載信息,還有它的美感,翻譯只能解決信息問題,但往往帶來美感的折損。
深度閱讀文學(xué)作品,不僅能夠體會語言的魅力,也更能把握作者真實的含義。
體會一下原文的美:
那是最美好的時代,那是最糟糕的時代;
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
那是智慧的年頭,那是愚昧的年頭;
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
那是信仰的時期,那是懷疑的時期;
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
那是光明的季節(jié),那是黑暗的季節(jié);
it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
那是希望的春天,那是失望的冬天;
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair
我們擁有一切,我們一無所有;
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,

簡而言之,

那時跟現(xiàn)在非常相像,某些最喧囂的權(quán)威堅持要用形容詞的最高級來形容它。
the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received,
說它好,是最高級的;說它不好,也是最高級的。

簡言之,那個時代跟現(xiàn)代十分相似,甚至當年有些大發(fā)議論的權(quán)威人士都堅持認為,無論說那一時代好也罷,壞也罷,只有用最高比較級,才能接受。
