1.「account」：常見的意思是“賬戶”，此處是“敘述，描繪”的意思。

2.「faculty」：常見的意思是“（大學(xué)的）全體教員”，此處是“才能，技能（formal, a particular skill that someone has）”的意思。

原句：I wrote timidly, fearfully, but resolutely, urged on by my teacher, who knew that if I persevered, I should find my mental foothold again and get a grip on my faculties.
