probe作名詞是“探針”的意思,作動詞表示“深入調(diào)查,打探”,尤其是調(diào)查別人不想讓你知道的事,英文解釋是 to ask questions in order to find things out, especially things that other people do not want you to know

wipe $ from/off sth 表示“使…
wipe...off tout sb as sth 吹噓為”(to try to persuade people that sb / sth is important or valuable by praising them / it)。 Along with red letterboxes and telephone booths, London's black taxis are touted as symbolic of the city.

《經(jīng)濟學(xué)人》在2019年一篇文章介紹瑞幸咖啡時用的wannabe這個詞,表示“效顰者,效仿名人的人”(a person who behaves, dresses, etc. like sb famous because they want to be like them),帶有貶義。原句是A recent notable arrival is Luckin Coffee, a Starbucks wannabe, which floated for $4bn in May.
wannabe unrivalled [?n?ra?v?ld] 指“無與倫比的,無雙的”(better or greater than any other)。 It has rightly been nervous about expanding advertising within WeChat, though the service sees unrivalled Chinese mobile traffic of over 1bn monthly active users.
-
list 作動詞,指“上市”,比如◇It will list on the London Stock Exchange next week with a value of 130 million pounds.
- float和短語go public也可表示“上市”,比如◇The company will be floated on the stock market next year.
put sb on notice 表示“事先提醒某人”(warn someone of something about or likely to occur, often in a formal or threatening way)。
exceptionally 指“罕見,特別”(used before an adjective or adverb to emphasize how strong or unusual the quality is),用于強調(diào),相當(dāng)于extremely。 I am very proud of you.?? I am exceptionally proud of you.

amount to / equate to
(If someone falls from grace, they suddenly stop being successful or popular)。 Ms. Fan, who turns 37 on Sunday, has dropped out of public view for more than three months — the victim of a sudden and precipitous fall from grace.
touch除了表示“觸摸”,還可表示“達(dá)到”某一水平,相當(dāng)于reach sth,比如◇The speedometer was touching 90.
the rush for the exits字面義是“沖向出口”,在這里指“拋售”。
-
weigh on sb/sth 的思想負(fù)擔(dān)”(to make sb anxious or worried)。我們有時可以用weigh on sb/sth替換worry sb/sth。
-
weigh in on/with sth 字面上是“把重量放進(jìn)去”,表示參與討論、在討論中發(fā)表有分量的意見、提出有說服力的觀點,相當(dāng)于add advise to sth。比如◇Cranston and others were improperly trying to weigh in on the decision. Keen to show they are engaged, bosses are publicly weighing in on issues like abortion and gun control. The danger is hypocrisy.
weigh in on
-
basher 來源于動詞bash, bash本義是“猛擊,猛撞”,引申為“猛烈批評,嚴(yán)厲批評”(to criticize someone or something very strongly)。 In America—though, phone-bashers should note, not in the rich world as a whole—suicides of young people are up.
delist為list的反義詞,指“摘牌,退市”,比如◇The shares dived and were delisted from the London market.
