China’s film industry finally joins the space race

China was a latecomer to space exploration, and in the movies, it has been a latecomer to science fiction, too. That is about to change.

The country’s first blockbuster set in space, “The Wandering Earth,” opens Tuesday amid grandiose expectations that it will represent the dawning of a new era in Chinese filmmaking.

“The Wandering Earth,” shown in 3-D, takes place in a distant future in which the sun is about to expand into a red giant and devour the Earth. And the preliminary reviews have been positive.

“Filmmakers in China see science fiction as a holy grail,” said Raymond Zhou, an independent critic, who noted that Hollywood had set the technological standards, and thus audience expectations, very high.

His novels are sprawling epics and deeply researched. That makes them plausible fantasies about humanity’s encounters with a dangerous universe.

The openings also come as China reached a milestone in space: the landing of a probe on the far side of the moon in January. Although decades behind Russia and the United States, China has now put astronauts in orbit and has ambitious plans to join—or even lead—a new age of space exploration.

恒星演化
恒星演化是恒星在生命過程中經(jīng)歷急遽變化的過程，目前我們已知的大多數(shù)恒星都處在主序星（main sequence star）階段，也可以說是它們的成年期。不同質(zhì)量的恒星有著不同的演化進(jìn)程：中小質(zhì)量的恒星（如太陽），主序星之后會(huì)膨脹成紅巨星（red giant star），最終會(huì)變成白矮星（white dwarf star）；大質(zhì)量的恒星，在主序星階段之后變成紅巨星，然后成為中子星（neutron star）；超大質(zhì)量的恒星，主序星之后是紅巨星，最后變成黑洞（black hole）。
根據(jù)這一理論，太陽終將演化成為紅巨星。根據(jù)科學(xué)家估算，目前太陽大約 46 億歲，離太陽膨脹成紅巨星至少有 50 億年的時(shí)間。當(dāng)太陽變成紅巨星，水星和金星都會(huì)被太陽吞噬?？茖W(xué)家們對(duì)于地球的未來并不確定，有些研究認(rèn)為地球也會(huì)被吞沒，但即使屆時(shí)太陽并沒有膨脹到那么大，地球也難逃成為高溫?zé)挭z的命運(yùn)。
雨果獎(jiǎng)
雨果獎(jiǎng)得名自《驚奇故事雜志》創(chuàng)辦人、現(xiàn)代科幻小說奠基人雨果·根斯巴克（Hugo Gernsback），是一個(gè)頒予每年最佳科幻和奇幻作品的獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)，由世界科幻小說協(xié)會(huì)（The World Science Fiction Society）舉辦。該獎(jiǎng)首次于 1953 年第 11 屆世界科幻年會(huì)頒發(fā)，從 1955 年起每年頒發(fā)。自獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)成立至今，該獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)的類別也經(jīng)過許多調(diào)整，現(xiàn)在雨果獎(jiǎng)分為十幾個(gè)類別，其中囊括各種類型的書面和戲劇作品。
