Children's Development

作者:劉可沁(07號)

It seems to me that Chinese parenting is extremely strict and stereotypical after reading some passages in Amy Chua’s “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother” . Take the author herself for example, she never allows her daughters to have a playdate to relax themselves. In addition, she asks them not to get any grade less than an A. Her daughters have no alternative but to obey.

What I like about Chinese parenting is that it teaches us the basic manners and help us to build our own values. The author forbade her daughters to attend a sleepover as she wanted to teach them to protect themselves. However, some rules of Chinese parenting are not beneficial to the children’s development mentally and physically. Children should be allowed to participate in more activities and cooperate with others frequently.
