匡衡是西漢著名學(xué)者。他出身于農(nóng)家,家境貧窮,但他自幼好學(xué)。
Kuang Heng was an outstanding scholar in the Western Han Dynasty. He was born into a poor farmer's family, but he had been very fond of reading since he was very little.
匡衡年少時(shí),經(jīng)常給人家當(dāng)短工而不取報(bào)酬,主人則以借書(shū)給他作為回報(bào)。
When he was a young boy, he often did odd jobs for other people for free, and in return, these people lent their books to him.
匡衡大些時(shí)候白天要在田里勞動(dòng),所以他在晚上學(xué)習(xí),可是他家沒(méi)有燈。
When he got older, Kuang Heng had to work in the fields during the day,so he studied hard at night. However, he had no lamp in his home.
他的鄰居比較富裕,匡衡便將墻壁掏個(gè)洞,“偷”來(lái)鄰居家的燈光讀書(shū)。
His neighbor was a well-off family. So in order to read books, Kuang Heng bored a hole in the wall and "stole" some light from his neighbor.
這就是膾炙人口的“鑿壁偷光”的故事,匡衡也因此成為奮發(fā)學(xué)習(xí)的榜樣。?
