《經(jīng)濟學(xué)人》雜志有一個特別有參與感的欄目，叫Debate. 每隔一段時間，結(jié)合熱點，編輯部邀請一些名人就某一話題展開正反兩面的辯論。同時，讀者也可以參與評論。很多讀者的文字水平很高，從中我們可以學(xué)到很多有用的表達方式，用于豐富我們自己的表達和思維。

本期的辯論主題是：Should the tech giants be more heavily regulated? 背后是哪個熱點新聞背景，大家想必一看就知道。

我選擇了一個小段落，我們一起來學(xué)習(xí)。

I think there are good arguments on either side. However, we have to find the right equilibrium between both extremes that will provide the benefits of convenience yet providing some kind of safeguards for individuals. How that pans out remains to be seen, but I believe some sort of regulatory oversight would not be bad if it was not too heavy handed.

1.equilibrium平衡，均衡

The government is anxious not to upset the economic equilibrium.

2.pan out成功；奏效；證明

1848年開始的加州淘金熱The California Gold Rush中，很多人都涌向美國西部。他們用盆子（pan）從河中淘水，然后慢慢把水倒出去，如果運氣好，就能夠淘出來些（out）金砂，如果運氣不好，那再來。

We hope things will pan out as we expect.
我們希望事情的結(jié)果如我們所料。

3.heavy hand高壓手段，嚴酷的手腕

政府繼續(xù)嚴格控制“敏感”話題。
