《A Farewell to Arms 》的前四章是一個序幕，主要給讀者展現(xiàn)了當(dāng)時的歷史環(huán)境和兩個主角的人物背景，所以我就來談?wù)剬@三方面的簡單印象吧。

? ? ? ? 迷霧，隆冬，暴雪，閃電，黑夜，這些意象編織出了一篇濃厚壓抑殘酷恐懼的戰(zhàn)爭情緒。放眼望去的自然景觀中無法忽視的哪些軍事設(shè)施和滿天飛揚的塵土，時刻在把人們從郊外的現(xiàn)世溫馨中拉扯出來。

? ? ? ? ?嚴(yán)寒縱使可怕，但更可怕的是人們對死亡的麻木。7000條生命也能用上only一詞，可見在戰(zhàn)役里死亡的，更是不計其數(shù)吧。即便是看遠(yuǎn)山，腦中蹦出的也全都是占領(lǐng)、攻占這些詞匯——在軍中，人們已經(jīng)習(xí)慣用戰(zhàn)爭的視角來感受這個世界了。

在這樣的嚴(yán)酷環(huán)境中，軍人們依靠這葷段子和黃色書籍來感受自己心臟的跳動——性的直接刺激才能讓他們感覺自己還是活著的。在戰(zhàn)爭氛圍中，神還有什么用呢？如果神是有用的話，他當(dāng)會庇護自己的子民遠(yuǎn)離戰(zhàn)爭吧。所以這些軍人們肆無忌憚地拿牧師開下流的玩笑，牧師也不惱，反過來看能作為他們減壓的對象，也算是“渡人一程”了吧。在這樣的麻木中，還能有愛么？有！這個故事講述的正是一段愛情故事，這不禁讓人期待加倍。

男女主角的相遇是經(jīng)典的狗血套路：我配朋友去”相親”，結(jié)果我遇到了真命天女，而朋友勾搭上他人。

女主又是一個在戰(zhàn)爭中失去所愛的女人，而且是青梅竹馬的戀人。青梅竹馬的感情大概在海明威嚴(yán)重是最最純粹的吧。我不禁懷疑海明威是否偏愛“喪偶”的女子。但我相信這不是什么個人的偏好。有人說海明威的故事里有一個“準(zhǔn)則英雄”的概念，而這樣的英雄往往是通過死亡來產(chǎn)生的。我想這個“戀人去世”的情節(jié)以及這些女性角色對這個戀人的態(tài)度應(yīng)當(dāng)是海明威對她們內(nèi)心的一種闡明：這個女子是偏愛英雄的，她是被英雄氣質(zhì)所吸引的。這是男女主角能走到一起的先決條件，也是后面悲劇產(chǎn)生的原因。

而男主看起來是一個對事比較穩(wěn)重，保守，不是特別有熱情的軍人。雖然他口中喊著榮譽的口號，但他總是想著戰(zhàn)爭結(jié)束的事情。他深夜夢回對戰(zhàn)爭對黑夜的恐懼，讓我想起李安《比利林恩的中場戰(zhàn)事》里的情節(jié)。（我想海明威的作品在一定程度上對李安的創(chuàng)作有一些影響）在《太陽照常升起》中的JAKE也是這樣的一種性格。我覺得他們和文章里沉浸其中的其他人物有一點不一樣，他們是相對冷靜和抽離的。我猜測這和海明威是作為戰(zhàn)地記者參與戰(zhàn)爭有關(guān)，因為新聞是需要有客觀性的。
