說起新年，關于中國春節(jié)的一些英文說法和相關詞匯，如除夕、拜年、春聯(lián)、春晚、廟會、壓歲錢、中國結(jié)……這些你都會說嗎？
春節(jié)? ? ? ? ? the Spring Festival
過春節(jié)? ? ? ? celebrate the Spring Festival
然而，光是這樣說，對中國和中國文化不熟悉的外國人，可能還是會蒙圈。所以一般，我們要加上一句 —— the Chinese New Year ! 或者你也可以說 ——? the Chinese Lunar New Year. lunar? 這是一個形容詞，在這里表示限定范圍，“月亮的”。那么根據(jù)月亮運行而來的， 就是我們中國人常說的 “ 陰歷的，農(nóng)歷的 ” 。所以，把這一堆意思整合起來說，就是 —— We will celebrate the Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year.（同位語）
春節(jié)起源 The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Begining of Spring (the first of the Twenty-four Solar Terms二十四節(jié)氣 in coodination with the changes of Nature). Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word ‘Nian’, which in modern Chinese solely means "year", was originally the name of a monster.

01. 紅包
Red Envelope (with money inside)
"紅包"翻譯為red envelope較為恰當。如果怕老外不太明白，可以加上with money inside，翻譯為red envelope with money inside就可以了?，F(xiàn)在微信上流行搶紅包，可以翻譯為snatch red envelopes，其中snatch是"搶"，Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary對snatch的解釋是to take hold of something suddenly and roughly，suddenly和roughly很能體現(xiàn)在微信群中搶紅包的那種奮不顧身和喜悅。【例】I got some red envelopes. I've been watching a Chinese New Year special (on a Chinese programme/program) and I'm having noodles for breakfast!
02. 春晚
Spring Festival Gala/New Year Gala 其中，gala是"綜藝演出"的意思。把春晚說成是一個party是不準確的，gala是很好的翻譯。和春節(jié)相關的東西，可以用Spring Festival作定語，也可以用New Year（大寫）作定語，但有些外國人不知道什么是Spring Festival，這個要注意一下。
03. 年夜飯
New Year's Eve dinner 用dinner肯定沒錯，但也可用banquet和feast來替換dinner，它們都是"盛宴"的意思，更能體現(xiàn)年夜飯的高大上~。也可以用reunion dinner年夜飯；團圓飯；團聚飯

CNY 人民幣；岸人民幣；人民幣元(RMB中國人懂，外國人很多不懂RMB是什么，人民幣國際通用縮寫是CNY, 而CNY dinner中的CNY是Chinese New Year 的縮寫）縮寫
04. 包餃子
make dumplings 順便說一下，有些地區(qū)包餃子的時候還會放硬幣，據(jù)說咬到的人就會交好運，這種餃子就可以說成dumplings with lucky coins inside，可以和上面的red envelope with money inside一起記。
【例】There's traditional food to noodle soup is supposed to bring luck, and people make dumplings with lucky coins inside.
05. 敬酒
drink a toast to someone 要注意這個短語和to的搭配，如"我給岳父敬酒了。"就是：
I drank a toast to my father-in-law.
【例】When you drink a toast to someone or something, you drink some wine or another alcoholic drink as a symbolic gesture, in order to show your appreciation of them or to wish them success.
06. 壓歲錢
lucky money (given to children as a gift) 其中given to children as a gift是進一步的解釋，為了讓老外徹底明白。

08. 春聯(lián)
Spring Festival couplet 其中couplet是"對句"的意思，通常指兩行長度一樣并且押韻的詩句。所以，a Spring Festival couplet是指"一副對聯(lián)"，如果指多副，就要用復數(shù)couplets。

09. 團圓
reunion: reunion可以看作由re和union組成，這樣可以方便記憶。以下例句提到了包餃子象征團圓，請注意，這個例句說的是in parts of China——中國一部分地區(qū)過年吃餃子，有些地區(qū)過年從來不吃餃子。
【例】Every year millions of people travel home to be with their families for the holiday. In parts of China, families make dumplings to symbolise/symbolize (英美拼寫差別）luck and reunion.
10. 拜年
give one's New Year blessing to/pay a New Year visit to “拜年”其實有兩個意思，一個是把雙手托在胸前說"給您拜年了！"，這句話可以說成：
I would like to give my New Year blessing to you. 或 Please accept my New Year blessing. 以上的blessing通常用單數(shù)，Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary對blessing的解釋是good wishes。
另一個"拜年"是過年期間去別人家送禮做客。如"我明天要去爺爺奶奶家拜年。"就可以翻譯為：
I'll be paying a New Year visit to my grandparents tomorrow.
