Today is Wednesday.

Pippi suggested they might go up in the attic and visit the ghosts. Annika gasped and asked if there were really ghosts in the attic. Pippi answered certainly there were millions. Annika looked reproachfully at Pippi and didn’t want to go there. Tommy said boldly that their mommy said there weren’t any such things as ghosts and goblins. Pippi said that she might say so because there weren’t any anywhere else and all the ghosts in the world lived in her attic, and it didn’t pay to try to make them move. But they weren’t dangerous and they just pinched you in the arm so you got black and blue, and they howled, and they played ninepins with their heads. Annika asked if they really played ninepins with their heads. Pippi said it was true and she asked them to go up and talk with them. Tommy didn’t want to show that he was frightened, and in a way he really did want to see a ghost. That would be something to tell the boys at school. Besides, he consoled himself with the thought that the ghosts probably wouldn’t dare to hurt Pippi. He decided to go along.
