Chapter 2 的文章難度明顯小于Chapter 1。林語(yǔ)堂先從景色描寫(xiě)起，通過(guò)長(zhǎng)江（the Yangtse River）帶讀者找到了蘇東坡的家鄉(xiāng)眉山。敘述完眉山的景色后，林語(yǔ)堂開(kāi)始寫(xiě)蘇東坡的生日、他的爺爺和爸爸，末尾寫(xiě)了四川的人杰地靈。

林語(yǔ)堂寫(xiě)眉山寫(xiě)四川，道出環(huán)境對(duì)人成長(zhǎng)的影響；寫(xiě)蘇東坡的家族，旨在于交代蘇東坡的優(yōu)良品質(zhì)和聰明才智源于何處。

寫(xiě)傳記的同時(shí)，林語(yǔ)堂也在寫(xiě)文化。在寫(xiě)蘇東坡的birthday時(shí)，寫(xiě)到了中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)上對(duì)歲數(shù)的算法：“A Chinese baby is "one year old" ?the moment he is born, following the general pattern of everyone's desiring to reach venerable age as quickly as possible.” 還寫(xiě)到了中國(guó)重男輕女的傳統(tǒng)，這個(gè)已有群友分享。

另一點(diǎn)印象深刻地是，林語(yǔ)堂在寫(xiě)四川的部分，寫(xiě)到了當(dāng)?shù)氐娜吮灰暈椤癲ifficult to govern”，而蘇東坡認(rèn)為應(yīng)理解為當(dāng)?shù)氐娜恕癱ould not be easily bullied by a magistrate”。這段寫(xiě)到了文明的作用，文明給人更為獨(dú)立思考的能力，批判性地接受事物，比一味地被奴化更值得提倡。

A good sentence pattern to describe a person.
