testimony: a solemn statement made under oath

仿寫(xiě): The testimony of the headmaster on the playground inspireed all the students to achieve their goals.

2. he blunts the painful edge of truth.

blunt: to make a feeling less strong

仿寫(xiě): His soothing words blunted my sorrow.

3. Look for the clutter in your writing

and prune it ruthlessly.

ruthlessly adv. 無(wú)情地；殘忍地；冷酷地

仿寫(xiě)：Works of art and valuable records were ruthlessly destroyed.

4. If your verbs are? ? weak and your syntax is rickety, your sentences will fall apart.

rickety: lacking physical strength or vitality 不穩(wěn)固的；不結(jié)實(shí)的

仿寫(xiě)：Your? conclusion will be rickety if you have not enough evidence.

Reflection

在寫(xiě)作中，用詞的簡(jiǎn)潔干凈尤其重要，但在第三章Clutter中提到了的一些詞如assistance” , “numerous”, “facilitate” , “individual”, “remainder”, “initial” , “implement” , “sufficient” , “attempt”等這樣的詞很復(fù)雜嗎？對(duì)于這點(diǎn)不是特別明白，選詞上究竟如何才能是真的簡(jiǎn)潔，以上的詞我也經(jīng)常都會(huì)用在自己的寫(xiě)作中，以為它們算是常規(guī)普遍的詞，看完這一章真的都在懷疑自己的選詞了。當(dāng)然也很疑惑
