1. More than 30 central State-owned enterprises (SOEs) have made plans to seize business opportunities expected from the planned creation of the Xiongan New Area in Hebei, according to the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council on Monday.
2. Central SOEs including China Telecommunications Corp, China Eastern Airlines, China National Machinery Industry Corp and China Energy Engineering Corp Ltd have all held top management meetings to discuss plans to develop the new area, according to the commission's website.
3. To ensure sufficient clean energy supplies, China National Offshore Oil Corp said it will build a branch liquefied natural gas pipeline to the Xiongan New Area.
4. China Merchants Group will support the Xiongan New Area financially in all aspects, including bank loans, bonds, financing and public-private partnership.
5. The new area has also brought growth opportunities to financial institutions and companies. China Construction Bank will establish a leading group to coordinate the company's business in the new area in its headquarters in Beijing, as well as setting up a regional branch in the area.

>Nearly 1B smokers worldwide

1. Despite a significant worldwide drop in smoking rates, there were still about 933m daily smokers around the world in 2015, according to a study published in The Lancet.
2. The researchers looked at data on smokers in 195 countries and territories between 1990 and 2015, and found that the daily smoking rates in men fell from 35% in 1990 to 25% in 2015, while the rates in women dropped from 8% in 1990 to 5% in 2015.
3. Over 80% of the daily smokers in 2015 were men.
4. Worldwide, 1 in 4 men smoked every day, compared with 1 in 20 women, according to the study.
5. In 2015, more than half of the male smokers in the world lived in China, India and Indonesia, while over one-quarter of the female smokers worldwide were in the US, China and India, the researchers found.
6. More than 11% of deaths worldwide were due to smoking in 2015, the study found, and over half of these deaths occurred in China, India, the US and Russia.

1. China's tech giant Tencent Holdings Ltd has become the world's 10th biggest publicly traded company by market value.
2. Founded in 1998, Tencent is the only Chinese company in the list of 10 biggest companies by market value, while American counterparts dominate the rest of the list.
3. Six of the world's top 10 are now technology companies, including the top four.
4. Tencent went public on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in June 2004.
5. Its stock has climbed 43% over the past year and more than 20% in 2017 alone.
6. Ma Huateng, CEO of Tencent, was named the third wealthiest man in China, according to Forbes' 2016 China Rich List.

>Joint bid for 2026 World Cup

1. The US, Canada and Mexico have announced they will make a joint bid to host the 2026 World Cup.
2. It will be the first tournament after the expansion from 32 teams to 48 and, if successful, would be the first time a World Cup has been shared by three hosts.
3. The proposal would be for the US to host 60 matches, with 10 games each in Canada and Mexico.
4. "The US, Mexico and Canada have individually demonstrated their exceptional abilities to host world-class events," said Sunil Gulati, president of the US Soccer Federation.
5. "When our nations come together as one - as we will for 2026 - there is no question the US, Mexico and Canada will deliver an experience that will celebrate the game and serve players, supporters and partners alike."
6. The decision on who will host the event will be announced in 2020.

1. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will spend upwards of ￡370 on Prince George's school uniform when he enters reception in September, it was revealed.
2. The third-in-line to the throne is due to start at Thomas's Battersea School, a ￡6,000-a-term co-ed school just 20 minutes from Kensington Palace.
3. According to Thomas's website, altogether there are 24 essential and non-essential items on the list, including a cagoule bearing the school's crest, a ￡36 navy jacket, a ￡35 jersey, a ￡30 art smock and ballet shoes, totaling ￡368.4.
4. But parents may wish to double up on some of the pieces, such as jumpers, socks and shirts - bringing the overall cost even higher.
5. According to a report from the Department of Education, the average UK parent will spend around ￡210 on primary school uniform - meaning George's kit comes in at just over 75% more.
