Exercise can improve mental health both chemically and physically.

Firstly, exercise can promote a lot of changes in the brain, such as neural growth,

reduced inflammation and so on. For example, exercise impulses the release of

endorphins, a neurochemical in the brain that can boost energy and enhance

well-being. Because of the chemical effect in the brain, exercise

is recognized as a natural and effective anti-anxiety treatment as well as a

powerful depression fighter.

Secondly, exercise can physically relax the muscles and relieve tensions in the body. When

we feel stressed, our muscles always feel tense with back or neck pain, or

painful headaches. Exercise like walking, running and swimming always involves

joints’ and muscles’ movements which can distract our attention from

immobilization stress response. Furthermore, exercise can help to

boost immune system which also lead us feel strong and energetic.

Therefore, exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve mental state through both chemical and physical influences.
