葛之覃兮，施于中谷，維葉萋萋。
（葛草長(zhǎng)得長(zhǎng)又長(zhǎng)，
漫山遍谷都有它，
藤葉茂密又繁盛。）
The vines outspread and trail,
In the midst of the vale,
Their leaves grow lush and sprout.
黃鳥(niǎo)于飛，集于灌木，其鳴喈喈。
（黃鸝上下在飛翔，
飛落棲息灌木上，
鳴叫婉轉(zhuǎn)聲清麗。）
Yellow birds fly about,
And perch on leafy trees,
O how their twitters please!
葛之覃兮，施于中谷，維葉莫莫。
（葛草長(zhǎng)得長(zhǎng)又長(zhǎng)，
漫山遍谷都有它，
藤葉茂密又繁盛。）
The vines outspread and trail,
In the midst of the vale,
Their leaves grow lush on soil.
是刈是濩，為絺為绤，服之無(wú)斁。
（割藤蒸煮又織麻，
織細(xì)布啊織粗布，
做衣穿著不厭棄。）
So good to cut and boil,
And make cloth coarse or fine,
Who wears it likes the vine.
言告師氏，言告言歸。
（告訴管家心里話，
說(shuō)我心想回娘家。）
I tell Mother-in-law,
Soon I will homeward go.
薄污我私，薄澣我衣。
（洗干凈我內(nèi)衣裳，
洗干凈我外衣裳。）
I'll wash my undershirt，
And rinse my outerskirt.
害澣害否？歸寧父母。
（洗和不洗分清楚，
回娘家去看父母。）
My dress cleaned,
I'll appearbefore my parents dear.
