The Hole in the Heart ?
心靈的傷口 ?
墨西哥灣石油從海底泄漏，是美國的重大新聞。每天有成千上萬加侖的石油流入海洋，人們嘗試堵漏，并沒有成功，被認為是美國歷史上最大的人造災(zāi)難之一。從生態(tài)學(xué)角度來講，那片區(qū)域的污染要幾百年才能恢復(fù)如初。石油公司說，那個漏洞很難修補，因為泄漏口位置太深了，大概在海底一英里處。
然而，其產(chǎn)生問題的深遠程度不止一英里。問題的根源深達人們內(nèi)心，他們的價值觀產(chǎn)生了漏洞——“我執(zhí)”或“自我”的漏洞。洞口中流淌出來的是貪婪、色欲、憤怒和驕傲的有毒液體，并且在污染著我們的知覺。因為知覺受到了污染，我們一并污染著世界。這全部來源于自我和貪婪。即便他們填補了海洋的漏洞，如果不修補內(nèi)心的傷口，就會制造出一個接一個的漏洞，更大問題也會隨之而來。
對至上的巴克提（奉愛）是修補心靈傷口的程序，這程序可以清除我們內(nèi)心有毒的污染物，并將我們內(nèi)心填滿至上之愛的甘露。一旦這甘露滿盈內(nèi)心，我們就可以用這甘露填滿物質(zhì)世界的整個海洋。這是人類社會的最大需求：清除內(nèi)心有毒的色欲、嫉妒、貪婪、驕傲和憤怒，獲得神圣的愛，成為那個愛的媒介。這是世界上每個人力所能及的宏圖偉業(yè)。
In the gulf of Mexico there is oil coming out of the ground. This is the biggest news in America. Ten of thousands of gallons of oil are coming out into the ocean everyday. People are trying to stop it, but are failing. It Is considered to be one of the worst manmade disasters in the history of America. And it may take hundreds of years for that area to recover ecologically. And the oil company says that the hole is difficult to fix because it's very deep, about one mile into the bottom of the ocean.
However, the problem is much deeper than one mile. The problem is that deep in the people's hearts, there is a hole in their values: the hole of ahankara or ego. And from that hole the toxic oil of greed and lust and anger and pride is pouring out and polluting our consciousness. And because our consciousness is polluted, we are polluting the world. It is due to ego and greed. And even if they patch up the hole in the ocean, if they don't patch up the hole in the heart, they are just going to make another hole and another hole and another hole, and bigger problems will come.
Bhakti or devotion to God is the process of healing that hole in the heart and cleaning the toxic waste our of the heart and filling our heart with the nectar of love of God. And when that nectar fills our hearts, we can fill the whole ocean of the material world with that nectar. This is the greatest need in the human society: to clean the heart of toxic lust and greed and envy and pride and anger, and to access divine love, and to be instruments of that love. That is the greatest thing anyone can do in the world.
