狐貍與葡萄
The Fox and the Grapes
英語原文

? One hot summer's day a Fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch.

? ? "Just the thing to quench my thirst," quoth he.

? Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch.

? Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success.

? Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel, but at last had to give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: "I am sure they are sour."

It is easy to despise what you cannot get.

長難句解析

? One hot summer's day a Fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch.

一個炎熱的夏日,一只狐貍在果園里散步,突然他看到高處一根修剪過的葡萄藤上掛著一串剛剛成熟的葡萄。

解析:本句是一個主從復合句。主句是a Fox was strolling through an orchard,主語是a Fox,謂語是was strolling,賓語是an orchard,此處用了過去進行時態(tài),表示這只狐貍在那個炎熱的夏日正在散步;till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine是時間狀語從句;which had been trained over a lofty branch是定語從句,修飾先行詞a vine,關系代詞which在從句中作主語,從句的謂語使用了過去完成時的被動語態(tài),結構為“had been+過去分詞”,表示葡萄藤在狐貍看到葡萄前已經被修剪過了。
