①介詞短語，在句子里不做主要成分，不管它
②the Blair government 是這個句子的主語，changed 改變 是句子的謂語，后面的應(yīng)該都是賓語了（我們可以先做出這種假設(shè)，這樣的話我們就找到了這個句子的主謂賓結(jié)構(gòu)，也就是這個句子的骨架，接下來我們的工作重點就是分析這么一大串賓語的成分了。至于我們的假設(shè)是否正確，則根據(jù)賓語的實際情況來判斷）the old Labor Party's practice （of using tax system, public expenditure and price controls） ③to reduce inequality ④and put an emphasis on the minimum wage ⑤and supplementing low incomes.
這部分里面and特別多，既好也不好，好是因為前面說過and可以幫助我們切割分句，但是and多了也意味著可能and只是被用來連接一個分句里面的并列成分，我們也直接切割，就會把一個分句切散成幾個零散的不成結(jié)構(gòu)的部分，也會妨礙我們理解分句的結(jié)構(gòu)。
這里④⑤兩個and連接了三個分句，第一句：
- the old Labor Party's practice （of using tax system, public expenditure and price controls） ③to reduce inequality
括號里的是一個介賓結(jié)構(gòu)——of doing sth/of + 名詞短語，說的是the old Labor Party具體嘗試的三件事
去掉括號里的東西還剩the old Labor Party's practice ③to reduce inequality——舊工黨的嘗試去減少不平等，（這樣子是不是很清晰了） - put an emphasis on the minimum wage
動賓結(jié)構(gòu)，主語是省略了，就是the Blair government，因為and連接，可以省略主語，這里的put其實是過去式（put, put, put），因為前一句動詞changed就是過去式，and連接并列結(jié)構(gòu)，分句的時態(tài)要相同 - supplementing low incomes
supplement 可以是動詞也可以是名詞，這里應(yīng)該是動詞，至于為什么是-ing形式而不是過去式我也不明白
Upland areas generally lend themselves to sheep farming, flat areas to crop production, wet and warm areas to milk and beef production.

這里可以說是一種擬人的手法，upland把他們自己借去給人們放羊了，讀著就很有意思 - 這三句是并列的省略句

因為后兩句沒有謂語動詞啊
預(yù)告
明天開始更Chapter6，也就是這周五要上的課文。6的確很煩，全是各種名詞還有人名，作品的名字和各種文學(xué)時期、作家流派，要花很多的時間去查字典才能看懂一點點，這種文章和平時我們看的文章不太一樣，因為這里面像文學(xué)時期（period）、文學(xué)主義（-ism）就算是詞匯量積累很多的人也不一定認識，因為這已經(jīng)算是專業(yè)詞匯了，比較小眾吧，平時也很少用到。
所以，不要被它嚇到-_-||
